Taste of Influence - Synopsis

In a world where a viral TikTok can redefine a restaurant’s future, Taste of Influence explores the intricate relationship between social media and the culinary industry. The documentary shines a light on small businesses like The Puddery, owned by Janel Prator, whose bakery was transformed after a TikTok review from influencer Keith Lee. Janel’s story offers a lens into the transformative, yet high-stakes, power of digital platforms.

Alongside Janel, the film profiles a variety of voices, including Chef Tavel Bristol-Joseph, co-founder of the celebrated Emmer & Rye Hospitality Group and owner of Nicosi, a concept challenging dining norms with its no-phone policy. Through his story, Taste of Influence examines the tension between preserving authentic dining experiences and navigating the demands of social media-driven success.

Influencers like Jane Ko, who have shaped Austin’s culinary landscape, add further depth to the conversation, sharing their perspectives on the responsibilities and opportunities of wielding online influence. Expert commentary rounds out the narrative, offering a broader cultural and economic context to the rapid evolution of food, technology, and connection.

Taste of Influence uncovers the stories behind the dishes, diving into the challenges and triumphs of those shaping our dining culture in the digital age. From the chefs crafting unforgettable meals to the influencers curating viral moments, this film invites audiences to reflect on what’s gained—and lost—when food becomes content.
